America’s first thermometer company originated in Cincinnati, OH in 1836. Since that time, Palmer Instruments has steadily evolved through product development geared exclusively towards industrial supply and process measurement.

From development of the “Foster Cup” thermometer in 1880, through the radical improvement of thermometer legibility by the patented “Red Reading Mercury” tube in 1929, to today’s temperature and pressure measurement innovations, Palmer has always maintained the “first” tradition by bringing instrument value, service and quality to a broad range of industries.

Operating from a new facility in Asheville, NC since 1987, Palmer has developed special-application products such as Dual-Sensing and “Slip-fit” thermometers, and pioneered new industry services such as free lifetime recalibration on pressure gauges. With the recent affiliation with Wahl Instruments, and resulting consolidation of manufacturing in Asheville, Palmer Instruments looks first to the future.

Palmer Recorders are available in 8″ or 12″ models, and come complete with either electric, spring wound, or PC-11 (battery operated) chart drive, and up to three (3) felt tip pens. Case mountings are wall, flush, pedestal, pipestand or portable. The combinations of case mounts and internals allow selections which meet your specific requirements without limiting performance or demanding a custom price.

Pressure Recorders

Pressure ranges up to 0 to 10,000 psig are offered in both 8″ and 12″ chart recorders.
Recorder accuracy is ± 1/2 chart graduation.

Temperature Recorders

Temperature ranges from -40˚F to 1000˚F in both
8″ and 12″ recorders.
Recorder accuracy is ± 1 chart graduation.

Pressure & Temperature Recorders

Temperature and pressure can be combined inside the same recorder with up to three (3) pens.

Acrylonitrile-Butadiene (NBR)

Nitrile rubber is generally resistant to Aliphatic Hydrocarbons, petroleum oils, mineral oils, vegetable oils and many acids. Good elongation properties as well as adequate resilience, tensile and compression set.

Description: General purpose elastomer for use as seal energizer or low pressure applications such as hydraulics and pneumatics.

Fluorocarbon (FKM)

Fluorocarbon has excellent resistance to chemicals and solvents with good high temperature and low compression set. Used for a wide chemical exposure situation and low gas permeability at high vacuums.

Description: An excellent elastomer for use in high temperature applications. Also exhibits excellent chemical resistance for use in harsh environments such as phosphate esters. Widely used in applications dealing with extreme temperature and/or extreme chemicals. It is suitable to use with all chemicals (exception – Skydrol, certain esters and ethers) makes it a popular elastomer in chemical processing, paper / pulp mills, various chemical, acid and solvent applications.

Fluorosilicone (FVMQ)

Electrically conductive fluorosilicone is available for EMI Shielding Gaskets and ESD Protection. Nickel-graphite filled fluorosilicone and silver plated aluminum filled fluorosilicone compounds are available. Excellent high and low temperature properties, aircraft fuel systems.

Description: Combines excellent low-temperature performance of silicone with improved chemical resistance. Very good resistance to military and aerospace fuels. Excellent performance in oxygen plasma environments.

Polyethylene (PE)

Good impact resistance, light weight, very low moisture absorption, and high tensile strength.

Description: Provides good resistance to organic solvents, degreasing agents and electrolytic attack. They have a higher impact strength, but lower working temperatures and tensile strengths than polypropylene. They are light in weight, resistant to staining, and have low moisture absorption rates.

Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE)

Most chemical resistance Thermoplastic available, low friction.

Description: Extremely low friction material which remains stable at both low and high temperatures. Excellent in applications with extreme temperature, extreme pressures and extreme chemicals. Available in Glass filled and Bronze filled and FDA Grades.

Tetrofluoroethylene (TFE/P)

Excellent resistance to petroleum oils, steam, hydrogen sulfide and amine corrosion inhibitors, excellent heat and chemical resistance.

Description: TFE/P will provide long term service at a temperature of 200°C and progressively shorter term service up to a practical limit of 275°C. TFE/P has excellent physical and mechanical properties as well. Tensile strength exceeding 3,000 psi and compression set as low as 25%. Use in Coater/Developer, Resist Stripping, CMP, Cleaning.

Hydrogenated Nitrile Butadiene Rubber (HNBR)

HNBR is widely known for its physical strength and retention of properties after long-term exposure to heat, oil, and chemicals. Depending on filler selection and loading, HNBR compounds typically have high tensile strengths. Available in FDA Grade.

Description: HNBR is achieved by hydrogenated NBR. Excellent wear and extrusion resistance over standard NBR, low compression set good chemical resistance and can be used with oils which have aggressive additives. Has an extended high temperature range.

Silicone Rubber (SI, Q, VMQ)

Silicone has excellent resistance to temperature extremes, used typically for static applications. Generally not suited for dynamic applications due to poor tensile strength and abrasion resistance. Available in FDA Grade.

Description: An excellent material generally used for static seals with excellent low and high temperature stability and good resistance to aging. Does exhibit excellent resistance to extreme temperature and is an acceptable FDA material. Typical use for silicone in dry heat applications and food processing applications.

Polyurethane (PU)

Typically used in high pressure hydraulic systems, excellent high abrasion resistance and high tensile strength. Available in FDA Grade.

Description: This is a high performance material with improved resistance to hot water (up to 100°C) makes it ideally suited for mining applications where water based hydraulic fluids are used. Can be used for pressure up to 6000 psi. It is excellent in oil based hydraulic fluids. Great abrasion resistance. Resistant to most oils, fuels, gases. Can be used successfully as a drive belt of various shapes.

Ethylene Propylene Rubber (EPDM)

Excellent ozone & chemical resistance characteristics, used in steam applications as well. Available in FDA Grade.

Description: For use in high temperature water, steam and brake fluids. This elastomer must not come in contact with mineral oils or grease. It is used in applications that deal with acids, weak alkalis.

Polyoxymethylene (POM)

Excellent wear and low water absorption.

Description: A high strength engineering plastic suitable for bearings, bushings and guide bands. Physical properties achieved are almost like cold-rolled steel. Low moisture absorption. Excellent as a hydraulic component in water based fluids.
